Shock waves

I was sitting in the conference room at school, where I’ve been squatting all week between classes, when my phone chirped to let me know that I had an email.  I signed up for CNN alerts and BOY am I glad that I did.

Low and behold, the Republican Candidate for the presidency, John McCain has FINALLY chosen his running mate and I have to say, the news has left me giddy all day.

Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, has been chosen to run alongside McCain.  This is great, and I’ll tell you why.

She’s a strict conservative, which will help McCain gain the support and trust of the far right, something he’s been lacking.  She is a corruption-buster, and has spent her ENTIRE term as governor destroying government corruption in Alaska.  She is prolife, something I hold dear to my heart (but I never force people to agree with me, seeing that the Constitution allows us all to have our own opinions about that topic), having “chosen” to not abort her child with down’s syndrome.  I give her credit, and a several dozen kudos for that alone because it is noble and honorable that she “chose” to give her child knowing that it will be his/her caretaker for his/her entire life.  My aunt had Downs… and she died several years before I was born.  She was loving, sweet, and my mother loved her dearly.  Her eldest son is also in the military and is going to Iraq.  I don’t cheer for young people being shipped off to war, however, when you join the military, it goes with the territory.  At least SHE isn’t pulling political strings to get her boy to NOT go overseas.  She’s facing the same situation as Democratic VP candidate–Joe Biden, who’s son will also be shipping out shortly.  And, for the most part, I giggled excessively because the idea of McCain chosing a woman (aside from the knowledge that she is relatively unknown to most of us) is a spectacular move and that must put a huge knot in Hillary’s panties.  *chuckles*

So, while I sat there, giggling aloud at the news, a Political Science professor and I began to talk… and he agrees with me that she will be a good running mate for McCain, if he wants to win the election.

This election, itself, is the most exciting election I’ve seen EVER… and I will be watching it, as many of you will, as it unfolds.  I have to say, if there’s been one defining moment where a politican sandbags the entire WORLD… McCain wins the award (followed closely by Former-NJ Governor McGreevey’s “I am a gay American” speech).

*claps aloud*

By the way, I understand that not everyone will agree with me and that’s fine.  I find this extremely interesting… and very exciting.  I can’t WAIT to see what happens… because either way, we’re going to make history: an African-American/Caucasian candidate and a female uber-conservative Veepee candidate.  Wow.  You can’t make this stuff up.

And, if you’re wondering, I LOVE LOVE LOVE teaching college.  As of today, I am no longer an enigmatic squatter–I have an office, an email, an soon I will have a phone extension.  As of today, life is very very good.  *grins*

Have a wonderful holiday weekend.  I have a lot to write about, so hopefully I will find time this weekend to do so.  Until then, have a happy and safe holiday weekend… and for the love of God… take a break and relax.  No labor is allowed…

*grins*

  5. Play nice, H… in truth, ANY candidate could die at any moment (either due to illness or by another’s hand). And, I recall people worried that Reagan would die during his TWO terms, and he didn’t.
